Obese Children – is there a solution

Child hood obesity is an issue which affects children of all social classes in Sri Lanka. When a child is morbidly obese with failure to loose weight it becomes a significant issue in the aspect of normal development of child both physically and Mentally. They are prone to get cornered and harassed at school by peers which affects the development of social skills and normal academic activities. Extreme weight makes it impossible for them to take part in any sport activity leaving alone competitive sport.

Some children become obese due to Childhood obesity syndromes and even among them carefully selected patients can benefit from weight loss surgery. We have performed bariatric surgery on a 15 year old child with Pradder Willie syndrome with satisfactory outcomes.

Given below is the story of Lehansa a 13 year old morbidly obese girl who managed to change her life through bariatric surgery
